The map view contains a great deal of information in very little space.

The terrain of each province is indicated by both color and shading.

Blue waves are sea, Black peaks are mountains, Green tree blobs are forest, Yellow/Brown speckles are desert, Red hatches are jungle and White provinces are plains.

You can also enter orders with drag-and-dropDrag_and_Drop on the map pane.

The provinces are labelled from top to bottom, left to right, as follows:

    • province number
    • name
    • taxbase
    • exploration percentage (if any)
    • owner number
    • various provincial contents
    • provincial race and army type

The provincial contents are your leaders and their armies, foreign leaders, mercenary and garrison units, and finally features.

Lets go ahead and decode the provinces in the sample...

1102 Io Sea (sea):  This province is Poor, its exact taxbase is unknown.  It is unexplored (no percentage indicated) and owned by #2.  No contents.  Note the thick border between land and sea, this border can be configured to show other boundaries.

See Borders commandIFX532

1202 Sheridan (mountain). 2g taxbase, 82% explored, owned by #8 (which happens to be you, which is why you know the exact taxbase).  It is populated by Eagles.

1302 Lynxhome (forest): 10g taxbase, 83% explored, owned by #8 (you).  Populated by Elves and they can fight as Bow or Fleet.

1103 Erg Khali (desert): 2g taxbase, 100% explored, owned by #8.  Now things get interesting.  H62 indicates the presence of a foreign hero #62.  This hero is independent, if he were from some other kingdom the kingdom number would have been shown as in H62:5 (meaning #62 works for king 5).  Also present are feature numbers 49 and 103 (F49, and f103).  The lower case f indicates that feature number 103 has already been sacked.  The province is populated by Weres.

1203 Martian Sea (sea):  This province is Poor, 75% explored, owned by #2.

1303 Florence (plains): 9g taxbase, 100% explored, owned by #8.  The h16 indicates that hero #16 is buried here (if he were alive he would be shown with an uppercase H like hero #62 was in province 1103).  Features #59 and #113 are here and they are as yet unplundered.

1104 Chaco (plains): 10g taxbase, 100% explored, owned by #8.  Several of your kingdoms leaders are here (they are indicated with an L to distinguish them from unallied heroes, the heroes from kingdoms whose XK file you merge in are also shown with an L but they are qualified with the kingdom number as in L50:2, this is not shown in this example).  So your heroes #27, #38, #51, #52, and #66 are here.  Now heres something new, L80=5Le indicates that leader #80 is here and current leads 5 Legion units.  To save space the quality of the units is not indicated. The M=Ch, indicates a mercenary Chariot unit (units led by the garrison commander are indicated with G=xxx).  Also present is leader #96, two features and a foreign hero.  Note that the presence of leaders is also indicated by the provincial tag, the L in the bottom corner of this province (and the dark black triangle) indicates there are leaders here, these tags can help you spot items of interest and can be configured to highlight other contents.

1204 Zacatecas (jungle):  4g taxbase, 100% explored, owned by #8, has feature #124 (unsacked) and is populated by Trolls.

1304 Donegal (plains): 2g taxbase, 100% explored, owned by #8.  Mercenary garrison unit.  Populated by Orcs, can recruit Phalanx or Warg Riders.
